Writing is like fish. When it's fresh it's good, when it's stale, it's not. If you're not sure, try it on the cat.

If you can't amaze them with your intellect, baffle them with your bullshit*

I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind, some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready, you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me. ~Dr. Seuss. For some reason, I think the source of the quote makes it even more badass. Edit: Just remembered another quote that I love for entirely different reasons.
"If you want an picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face- forever." ~Orwell, 1984
What's more depressing, the quote, or the fact that it's an accurate commentary on society of all colors?

If the artist does not fling himself, without reflecting, into his work, as Curtis flung himself into the yawning gulf, as the soldier flings himself into the enemy's trenches, and if, once in this crater, he does not work like a miner on whom the walls of his gallery have fallen in; if he contemplates difficulties instead of overcoming them one by one...he is simply looking on at the suicide of his own talent. - Honore de Balzac
If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing. - Benjamin Franklin
I try to create sympathy for my characters, then turn the monsters loose. - Stephen King
